The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released an investment bulletin focused on cryptocurrency wallets and the storage of digital assets.

The document outlines the advantages and risks of various methods. In particular, it describes the dangers of storing coins on centralized platforms, as well as explaining how cold wallets work.

According to the SEC, if investors choose a third party, they should understand the custodian's policy, including whether the service provider engages in 'rehypothecation' of assets by lending them out or pools client assets instead of storing cryptocurrency in separate accounts.
