Ethereum validators running the Prysm consensus client suffered losses of over $1 million (382 ETH) after a critical software bug disrupted the network following the Fusaka upgrade. The issue, caused by a resource exhaustion bug introduced earlier on testnets, led to missed blocks and attestations, affecting network performance for several hours.

During the incident, Ethereum saw 41 missed epochs and an 18.5% missed slot rate, pushing participation down to around 75%. While Prysm developers have now implemented permanent fixes, the event has reignited serious concerns about client concentration risk on Ethereum.

Although Ethereum avoided a major crisis thanks to its client diversity, experts warn that if any single client crosses critical dominance thresholds, future bugs could threaten network finality. As a result, the community is once again urging validators to diversify across clients like Teku, Nimbus, and others to strengthen Ethereumโ€™s resilience.
