๐ Starting from February 1, 2026, a 10% tariff will be imposed.
If an agreement is not reached
๐ It is also said that it will be increased by up to 25% from June 1, 2026.
Why?
Trump said that these taxes will be maintained until an agreement is reached for the U.S. to purchase Greenland.
In his view, Greenland is important for Arctic military and security.
Trump also stated that "the time has come for Denmark to return Greenland."
European response
European countries have strongly opposed this action, calling it a "method of pressuring allies."
Protests occurred in Greenland and Denmark, emphasizing that "Greenland is not for sale."
Some members of the U.S. Congress (from both parties) have also criticized this policy.
