Walrus and the Rollup “Truth Window”: How Long Should Data Stay Retrievable? Let's try to find out ..
Walrus changes how I think about rollup storage as it is not about keeping data forever, it’s about keeping it long enough so anyone can check at any time.
In rollups, the batch data is held temporarily so validators can download it and replay execution if something looks wrong. Walrus fits here as a tougher “data window” layer which is spread across many nodes, so the batch data doesn’t vanish when one party goes offline.
The most important thing is the window length as if the window is too short, fraud becomes easier but if it’s durable, verification becomes normal. Walrus pushes the conversation from “trust the sequencer” to “make truth retrievable by design,” which is the kind of boring reliability crypto actually needs.
What’s your take on this: if Walrus makes data harder to delete, how long should a rollup be forced to keep its “truth window” open - Hours, days or forever? Kindly share your views in the comment box.
