The Trump administration has seen the Canadian government's approach to other countries, especially China, as a serious threat; meetings between the Canadian Prime Minister and Xi Jinping do not please Washington. Canada has been increasingly seeking closer ties with international markets after the tense rupture and exchange of threats, particularly tariff-related, from the American government.
