Recently, the on-chain data from Token Terminal has surprised many: the daily active addresses on Ethereum Layer 1 have completely surpassed those of Arbitrum, Base, OP Mainnet, Starknet, and Linea, among other mainstream Layer 2s!
Is this the bull market signal of 'Return to Mainnet'? Don't get too excited; let's break down the real reasons behind the data.
📊 Data Pivot: L1 vs L2
In the past, we always believed that L2 was the future traffic entry point, but the current abnormal phenomenon has sparked two completely different interpretations:
1. Narrative return? With the relative stability of Gas fees after the EIP-4844 upgrade, some large holders and high-value DeFi activities have indeed shown signs of flowing back to the mainnet.
2. The noise of 'Address Poisoning'? (Focus ⚠️)
Security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov pointed out a brutal possibility: the recent surge in active addresses is largely contributed by 'Address Poisoning' and 'Dusting' attacks.
🔍 What is 'Address Poisoning'?
Attackers use scripts to generate 'disguised addresses' that are very similar to the first and last characters of your commonly used addresses, and send you 0 tokens. Since many people's wallets display simplified addresses, once you copy the wrong address from the transaction record, your assets will be sent directly to the hacker.
💡 Key conclusion:
• Activity ≠ real demand: If active addresses are supported by attack scripts, then this 'catch-up' does not mean that L1 has regained ecological advantages.
• Beware of the 'zero transfer' trap: An increase in activity means attackers are frantically 'casting nets' on the mainnet.
🛠 Security operation reminder:
• Never copy wallet addresses directly from transaction history!
• Please ensure to verify the middle character of the key transfer, or use an ENS domain.
• For inexplicable 0-value transfers that appear in bills, simply ignore them; do not be curious to click or interact.
