Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, has launched a new messaging app called Bitchat that works without the internet. According to New Atlas, the app was released in beta on July 7, 2025, and quickly filled its 10,000 TestFlight slots, showing strong interest from users eager to try a new way of communicating.
Bitchat uses Bluetooth and mesh networking to send encrypted messages directly between devices. This means that messages can hop from one phone to another, extending the range up to 300 meters without relying on mobile data or Wi Fi. The app does not require SIM cards, phone numbers, or centralized servers, making it resistant to censorship and surveillance.
Although still in beta, Bitchat is being described as a potential game-changer in messaging technology, especially for communities where internet access is limited or restricted.
