"AI companies have no business plan or real substance to sustain their value. A stock market crash will have enormous effects on the world"
Journalist Karen Hao considers herself optimistic about artificial intelligence (AI) despite thinking that the companies developing it are appropriating others' resources, inflating their stock value, and selling misleading narratives.
"If I weren't optimistic, I wouldn't be researching and criticizing these companies. I believe the world can be better," says Hao.
This journalist specializes in covering technology companies.
She has worked for The Wall Street Journal and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she also studied and mingled with some of the most prolific AI company developers.
In her recent book Empire of AI: Inside the reckless race for total domination (translated as "El Imperio de la IA: Sam Altman y su carrera por dominar el mundo"), she discusses how behind the figures developing this technology are practices she considers imperialistic and concerning.
