On January 23, the White House official account directly released an AI image: Old Trump is holding a little penguin on the icy Greenland, and the penguin is holding the Stars and Stripes flag, with the Greenland autonomy flag in the distance. The caption has just two words - “Embrace the penguin.”
Originally, it was meant to be a high-level joke, but it backfired and became the biggest international joke at the start of 2026 😂
This joke actually comes from the 2007 documentary “Lessons of Darkness” by German director Herzog, where a lone Adelie penguin suddenly leaves its group and walks into the inland ice field, knowing that there’s no food and it can’t survive there, but it just keeps walking. Internet users later interpreted this as “the lonely hero, not following the crowd, willing to die to walk their own path.”
The right-wing circles love this, often editing it to portray Jesus, Joan of Arc, Luke Skywalker, etc., symbolizing anti-wokeness, anti-mediocrity, and embracing a higher mission. The White House likened Trump to that “lonely penguin” - no matter how Denmark and Europe oppose it, he is determined to take Greenland and walk his own “heroic path”!
And what’s the result? The fatal bug: Greenland is in the Arctic Circle, wild penguins only live in the Southern Hemisphere; they are only found in Antarctica! There are no penguins in the Arctic, my brother! (Except for zoos and a few rare exceptions)
