Volkswagen is recalling more than 44,000 ID.4 electric vehicles in the United States over a potential battery fire hazard.
• 670 ID.4 vehicles are affected by a manufacturing defect in battery modules. Inside the batteries, electrode displacement may occur, which under certain conditions increases the risk of fire.
• An additional 43,881 vehicles are being recalled due to the absence of dedicated battery monitoring software. In rare cases, this could lead to overheating and ignition.
Volkswagen will update the software, inspect battery conditions, and replace modules if necessary.
