"It has never been my intention to turn Greenland into the 51st state. I want to make Canada the 51st state. Greenland will be the 52nd state. Venezuela could be the 53rd state," he said jokingly during a dinner at the elite Alfalfa club in Washington D.C.

The American president declared this Sunday that he would like Canada to become the 51st state of the U.S., after months of expressing support for taking control of Greenland, citing a security threat from Russia and China.
