Boom in RWA tokenization expected after passing of GENIUS Act — Aptos exec
New legislation like the GENIUS Act is paving the way for institutional adoption of real-world asset tokenization, as Aptos Labs and other major players lead the charge.

Real-world asset tokenization is rapidly emerging as one of Wall Street’s most promising innovations, and with the recent passage of pro-industry legislation, particularly the US GENIUS Act, growth in the sector is poised to accelerate, according to Aptos Labs’ newly appointed chief business officer, Solomon Tesfaye.
In a conversation with Cointelegraph ahead of the landmark passage of the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, Tesfaye emphasized the legislation’s appeal to institutional players increasingly signaling intent to enter the crypto space.
“We’re seeing more open dialogue between policymakers and Web3 leaders that is shaping legislation and giving institutions more confidence to commit to longer digital asset roadmaps,” Tesfaye said. “More specifically, the GENIUS Act is one of the strongest signals that Congress is ready to support responsible blockchain innovation.”

Following some political holdouts during the Republicans’ “crypto week,” the US House of Representatives passed the GENIUS Act, along with two other crypto-related bills, last Thursday.

The legislation, which establishes a regulatory framework for the $260 billion stablecoin market, was signed into law by US President Donald Trump on Friday.

While stablecoins are often excluded from RWA industry metrics, many are backed by government bonds and other tangible assets, effectively classifying them as RWAs.
Stablecoins are also widely regarded as a key on-ramp for tokenization’s future growth, offering predictability, lower transaction costs, greater liquidity and a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Bit Origin CEO Jinghai Jiang said the company adopted Dogecoin for its treasury because they see its “utility potential for micropayments nearing an inflection point.”

China-based pork processing company and Bitcoin miner Bit Origin has officially kicked off its crypto treasury initiative with its first acquisition of 40.5 million Dogecoin. 

In a statement on Monday, the company said the Dogecoin

 buy was the “first strategic acquisition” under its digital asset treasury initiative, supported by a share sale and debt offering that aimed to raise $500 million.

At an average price of $0.24 per coin, Bit Origin would have spent around $9.9 million on its recent Dogecoin acquisition. The token is currently trading at $0.26, according to Nansen.

Notably, Bit Origin has ties to a China-linked crypto mining firm that was forced to vacate a property in Wyoming after an order from the White House.

Bit Origin joined forces with MineOne Partners Limited in 2022 to operate a crypto mining facility in Cheyenne, Wyoming, providing strategic and operational support. The China-linked crypto mining firm was forced to leave the property in 2024 due to its proximity to a nuclear missile base.

Before joining Bit Origin in 2021 as its chief operating officer and CEO, Jinghai Jiang was a director at MineOne Partners Limited.

US Lawmaker sounds alarm on GENIUS bill, says it’s a CBDC Trojan Horse
The line between a central bank digital currency and a centrally-managed, government-regulated stablecoin is thin, critics argue.

United States congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene said that the GENIUS stablecoin bill creates a “backdoor” for the government to effectively create a central bank digital currency, veiled as privately issued crypto tokens.

The lawmaker said that regulated stablecoins feature “functional surveillance capabilities,” which make them indistinguishable from CBDCs. In a separate social media post, she added:

"This bill regulates stablecoins and provides for the backdoor central bank digital currency. The Federal Reserve has been planning a CBDC for years, and this will open the door to move you to a cashless society and into digital currency that can be weaponized against you by an authoritarian government controlling your ability to buy and sell.”
Rep. Greene’s comments echo a growing tide of individuals in the Bitcoin and crypto communities sounding the alarm on regulated stablecoins and the potential for these privately-issued tokens to become captured by the state.
