Reviewing the #Pippin from this morning, the maximum floating profit was six times. I saw the abnormal basis signal from the robot and jumped in directly, although I couldn't hold it until the end.
This is a classic signal. When the price basis is abnormal, why does this situation occur? When one side of the spot or contract buys heavily, due to the presence of short positions, the prices won't align. If the buy volume exceeds the short and sell volume, there will be a price difference between the contract and the spot, and vice versa.
In the previous post, I mentioned that when there is a price difference between the spot and the contract, it indicates abnormal trading volume, which is suitable for us to place orders. How to judge? Look at the capital inflow situation and the open interest (oi) of the contract.
When capital inflow is large, we can try to go long. As shown in Figure 3, the abnormal basis alarm indicates that the capital inflow has been consistently positive across all time frames. Moreover, one minute later, the open interest anomaly alarm (Figure 4) shows that there is a pure inflow of long contract funds, and the funding rate is negative.
According to my logic, this indicates that the main force is frantically building long positions, preparing to push the price up to liquidate certain short positions. After clearing the shorts, the closing price of the short positions will continue to rise. However, this situation won't last too long. After clearing the longs, the main force quickly closes the long positions, and the price rapidly falls back, with the funding rate continuously returning to positive, indicating that this wave of market has ended, and we can close our long positions to secure profits.
Sometimes, it's hard to figure out the profit-taking point and one might want to be greedy. A simple method is to look at the five-minute chart; if it breaks the first bearish candle of the upward trend, one can close 80% of the position and keep the remaining position to ensure capital preservation. If the price continues to rise, one can add to the position, thus ensuring profits while not missing out on the market.
