STOP REVENGE TRADING!!
I Lost Money… Then I Lost Even More Trying to Get It Back
I still remember the exact moment it happened. I took a bad loss on a trade, stared at the screen, and felt this burning need to “make it back right now.” Same coin, bigger size, no real plan. I just wanted to erase the red number.
That’s revenge trading. And it’s one of the fastest ways to blow up an account.
The market doesn’t care that you’re angry. It doesn’t care that you “deserve” to win that money back. It just keeps moving. But when we’re in that emotional state, we stop trading the chart… and start trading our ego. We take bigger risks, ignore our rules, and usually end up in an even deeper hole.
Here’s what actually helped me break the cycle:
I started forcing myself to close the chart for at least 30 minutes after any loss. No exceptions.
I began writing down exactly what I was feeling before I even thought about entering another trade. Most of the time I realized I was angry, not analytical.
I cut my position size in half for the rest of the day whenever I was coming off a loss. Smaller size = smaller emotional swings.
I made it a rule: no “get back” trades. If I wanted to trade again, it had to be a completely new setup that met all my criteria — not a revenge mission.
The hardest part isn’t learning these rules. The hardest part is actually following them when you’re staring at a red number and your heart is racing.
Most traders know revenge trading is stupid. Very few actually stop doing it.
