The "Trump Gold Card" program, launched by President Donald Trump in September 2025, aims to attract wealthy foreign investors to contribute at least 1 million USD (initially promoted at 5 million USD) for expedited residency, paving the way to U.S. citizenship. The program is expected to help reduce the current U.S. national debt of nearly 39 trillion USD, with claims it could bring in trillions if millions of cards are sold.

However, according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick speaking before Congress on April 24, 2026, only one person has been approved for the card so far. About 165 people have paid the initial application fee (15,000 USD/person) with hundreds of applications still in the queue.

Mr. Lutnick stated that the administration "wants to get it perfect," which has slowed the progress. Trump once held a gold card sample on a plane and described it as the "green card on steroids," but in reality, sales are much lower than the initial expectations.
