The discovery, the results of which were published in the Journal of Nematology, was made by a team from the University of Utah led by biologist Byron Adams, who studies microscopic animals capable of surviving in extreme conditions. Scientists collected sediment samples from several areas of the lake and examined them in the laboratory.
