A trader came to a village and announced that he would buy each monkey for 10 rupees.
The villagers caught many monkeys and gave them to him. A few days later, as the monkeys became scarce, he said:
> “Now I will give 20 rupees for each monkey.”
The people tried again and caught more monkeys.
Then he raised the price to 50 rupees. Now the monkeys were very few.
One day, the trader went to the city and left his assistant behind.
The assistant told the villagers:
> “All these monkeys are in the cage; you can buy them from me for 35 rupees,
when the owner comes back, you can sell them for 50 rupees, and you will make a profit.”
The people, tempted by greed, bought all the monkeys.
After that, they neither saw the trader nor the assistant, only monkeys were everywhere.🐵🙊🙉
