Recently, the gold market has seen a round of concentrated exits led by short-term leveraged funds. This kind of selling looks more like passive liquidation rather than investors making a new judgment about gold’s long-term value.
What is more worth watching next is not the short-term price swings themselves, but who will take over these positions that have been dumped.
Leveraged Liquidation Amplifies the Downtrend
This decline bears the typical characteristics of a “surrender-style selloff.” Prices first move in an unfavorable direction, then trigger margin calls and stop-loss orders, causing some positions to be automatically closed, while some brokers also proactively reduce their risk exposure.
The continuous sell pressure further drags down prices, which in turn triggers another wave of liquidations.
