What is LINEA in simple terms?

1. What is Linea?

Linea is developed by Consensys, the creators of the MetaMask wallet. It is a technology aimed at making transactions on Ethereum faster and cheaper.
It uses a technology called zk-Rollups.

2. How does it work?

The Ethereum problem: Ethereum can sometimes be slow, and transaction fees can be high, especially during peak usage periods. Linea is designed to solve this problem.
The zk-Rollups: Linea uses zk-Rollups to bundle multiple transactions into one. This reduces the load on the main Ethereum network.
How does it reduce costs? Instead of sending each transaction individually, Linea processes them off the main chain and sends a cryptographic proof that all transactions are valid. This takes up less space on the Ethereum network, thereby reducing fees.

3. Advantages of Linea

Speed and cost: Linea makes transactions faster and cheaper than on the main Ethereum network.
Compatibility: Linea is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), meaning developers can use the same tools they use for Ethereum.

🇪🇺 The European Banking Authority (EBA), the EU's banking regulator, is finalising draft rules for banks holding Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The draft rules require banks to assign a risk weight of 1,250% to "unsecured" cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The framework applies to banks in the European Union that hold crypto assets on their balance sheets.

Once approved, the bill would become a delegated regulation and be sent to the European Parliament and the Council.

For example: a bank will have to tie up €12.5 million of capital for €1 million of $BTC held...
