For me, Freedom of Money means giving the government the middle finger Not symbolically……Literally. It means not having to switch on a VPN just to access my own Binance account or submitting this very thought without first pretending I’m in a different country. the country that restricted its citizens from using Binance also arrested the man Binance sent to fix things. Surely one cannot be free while trying to build in a broken economy or can they? It means the CBN can announce a naira redesign at midnight and my savings don’t disappear by morning or get into a rampage trying to exchange the old for new currency before the deadline It means sending money to my brother in Lagos at 2am without waiting for a bank that’s “currently undergoing maintenance.” Or the exchange rate doesn’t get to decide whether this month is a good month or a bad one. I don’t need to explain to a gatekeeping institution why I deserve access to global financial rails, why my work gets paid in what it’s actually worth, not in whatever EFCC decides is the legal equivalent this week. For me, Freedom of Money means giving the government the middle finger

Not symbolically……Literally.

It means not having to switch on a VPN just to access my own Binance account or submitting this very thought without first pretending I’m in a different country.

the country that restricted its citizens from using Binance also arrested the man Binance sent to fix things.

Surely one cannot be free while trying to build in a broken economy or can they?

It means the CBN can announce a naira redesign at midnight and my savings don’t disappear by morning or get into a rampage trying to exchange the old for new currency before the deadline

It means sending money to my brother in Lagos at 2am without waiting for a bank that’s “currently undergoing maintenance.”

Or the exchange rate doesn’t get to decide whether this month is a good month or a bad one.

I don’t need to explain to a gatekeeping institution why I deserve access to global financial rails, why my work gets paid in what it’s actually worth, not in whatever EFCC decides is the legal equivalent this week.

Or my grandmother has a place to keep her money instead of the end of her clothes or buying endless insecticides and rat poison to stop the creeping crawleys from feeding on her “ safe box”

It means building a startup in a country where the infrastructure hates you and still wants a piece of it every now and then

It means the borders that trapped the naira don’t trap my ambition.

For me, Freedom of Money means I stopped asking permission.
