Still something about AI infrastructure feels different. Models are slipping into systems that carry weight underwriting moderation triage. And most of the execution layer is centralized by default. We trust providers to run the right version to keep logs intact to handle updates responsibly. It works mostly. But it's a lot of quiet trust. A decentralized network that hosts and verifies inference feels like a challenge to that concentration. Not a flashy feature set but a question who actually controls the rails beneath intelligence? Yet I can't shake the operational doubts. Verification adds cost. Uptime demands discipline. Incentives drift. I've watched decentralized systems slowly narrow until a small set of reliable operators carry most of the load. Transparency didn't prevent that it just made it visible. And if AI becomes critical infrastructure verification under ideal conditions won't be enough. It has to hold under stress when something fails publicly when regulators get involved. Maybe OpenGradient is exploring how to build those boring durable layers before they're urgently needed. Or maybe it will run headfirst into the same coordination limits we've seen elsewhere.I'm not dismissing it. I'm just not convinced the hard part is solved yet.

Maybe OpenGradient is exploring how to build those boring durable layers before they're urgently needed. Or maybe it will run headfirst into the same coordination limits we've seen elsewhere.I'm not dismissing it. I'm just not convinced the hard part is solved yet.
