РостI've been thinking about @OpenGradient , and one question keeps coming back to me:
Who is really asking for this today?
Don't get me wrong—the technology is genuinely interesting. A decentralized network where AI models can be hosted, run, and verified makes a lot of sense, especially if AI is going to play a bigger role in finance, healthcare, and other industries where trust and accountability matter.
But when I look at the market today, I see something different.
Most people don't care how an AI response is generated. They care whether it's fast, useful, and affordable. If a centralized solution already does the job well enough, convincing users to switch becomes much harder than building great technology.
That doesn't make OpenGradient a bad idea. In fact, it could mean the team is building for a future that hasn't fully arrived yet.
The real challenge is surviving until that future becomes the present.
We've seen this happen before. Some of the biggest innovations looked unnecessary at first because the market wasn't ready for them. Others never found enough demand, despite being technically brilliant.
That's why I think the biggest question isn't whether OpenGradient can build the technology.
It's whether the need for verifiable AI becomes something businesses and developers genuinely can't ignore.
Technology can open the door, but people decide whether to walk through it.
And in the end, adoption isn't driven by what impresses engineers. It's driven by what solves real problems for real users.

I've stopped assuming that every new AI model automatically creates value for infrastructure projects. For a while, the market reacted that way, but the pattern doesn't always hold.
The more I watched, the more I realized the difficult part isn't building smarter models. It's creating a network where independent operators can coordinate efficiently, verify results, and stay economically motivated over time.
That's why OpenGradient stands out to me. Instead of focusing only on model performance, it seems to be addressing the infrastructure that allows AI workloads to run in a decentralized and verifiable way. If the cost of coordination keeps dropping, the network itself may become the real competitive edge.
From an investment perspective, I pay close attention to token economics. A high fully diluted valuation and future token unlocks need to be supported by sustainable demand. Without recurring network activity and fee generation, additional supply can weigh on long-term performance.
I also try not to confuse activity with adoption. Metrics like bonded operators, verified inference, repeat customers, and consistent workload growth tell me far more than short-term hype on social media.
In the end, I'm less interested in who announces the biggest model next. I'm more interested in whether a network can consistently attract real users, deliver reliable service, and create an economic cycle that lasts beyond the headlines. That's the kind of signal I prefer to follow

U.S. Supreme Court Rules Presidents Can Fire SEC and CFTC Commissioners at Will
According to Decrypt, the US Supreme Court on Monday overturned a 91-year precedent, ruling in a 6-3 decision that presidents can fire federal agency commissioners — including at the SEC and CFTC — at will and for almost any reason, with the exception of Federal Reserve governors.
The case, Trump v. Slaughter, affirmed President Trump's right to fire Rebecca Slaughter, a Democratic FTC commissioner, whose husband is VP of policy at crypto venture firm Paradigm and helped fund the lawsuit. The ruling overturns a precedent set during the Franklin Delano Roosevelt administration that limited presidential removal of agency commissioners to cases of neglect of duty or malfeasance.
"Today's historic Slaughter decision by the Supreme Court is the greatest increase in presidential power in the last 100 years," Trump said in a social media post.
The ruling has direct implications for crypto regulation: the SEC currently has three Republican commissioners and zero Democrats, while the CFTC has a lone Republican chairman, with Trump having refused to appoint Democrats to either agency despite telling Decrypt in December he was "open" to the idea.
The decision further complicates negotiations over the Clarity Act, as Senate Democrats had previously demanded Trump commit to appointing Democratic commissioners as a condition for supporting the crypto market structure bill. The ruling means Trump could theoretically appoint Democrats and fire them at any time thereafter. Senate Democrats have also staked out ethics language restricting Trump's crypto ventures as a red line. GOP Senate leadership signaled an intention to force a floor vote on the Clarity Act next month regardless of Democratic readiness.
