What is $TAO (Bittensor) still missing right now?

The whitepaper vision is strong, and subnets are already delivering in image/video generation, Deepfake detection, and decentralized GPU compute. The incentive mechanism is clever.

But the real gaps remain:
• No true killer app that makes average users say “I need this every day”
• General intelligence & reasoning still lags top closed-source models
• High barrier to entry — not as smooth as ChatGPT for normal people
• Subnets feel fragmented, network effects haven’t fully kicked in yet

It feels like 2017 Ethereum: infrastructure is there, early adopters are in, but it’s still waiting for that breakout moment.

Long-term bullish on decentralized AI, but short-term it needs patience and real product-market fit. @bittensor
