Bitcoin-focused treasury companies are now facing a tough “Darwinian phase,” according to a new analysis from Galaxy Research. These companies previously benefited from their share prices trading above the value of the Bitcoin they held. That allowed them to raise money, buy more Bitcoin, and create a cycle of rapid expansion. However, this model has broken down as Bitcoin’s price has fallen sharply from its highs and investor appetite for risk has weakened. Many of these firms now trade below the value of their Bitcoin holdings, meaning their leverage is working against them instead of helping them grow. Galaxy warns that the same strategies that boosted gains during the bull market are now worsening losses. Several Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) stocks that once traded with large premiums are now at discounts, with firms like Metaplanet and Nakamoto seeing steep drawdowns.
