Is Midnight's privacy coin strategy the way for Cardano to maintain its position? Cardano has officially introduced Midnight, a new privacy-focused blockchain, at a time when ADA continues to struggle. The token has dropped 21% this month and over 50% in the past year, raising the question of whether Cardano is using the privacy-coin narrative to regain market attention. Midnight brings a fresh token system and new operational rules built around two assets: NIGHT and DUST. NIGHT has a fixed 24B supply and serves as the public-facing token, while DUST is created from NIGHT and used to pay for private actions before being burned. This design allows partial transaction privacy without turning ADA into a full privacy coin—aligning with rising demand for confidential yet compliant transactions. The launch, however, comes as ADA underperforms major assets and Cardano faces criticism for weak branding, limited partnerships, and slow DeFi growth. Even founder Charles Hoskinson has acknowledged these persistent issues. Despite that, Midnight gives Cardano a new strategic angle in a cycle where privacy coins like Zcash and Dash are outperforming. NIGHT listed on multiple exchanges immediately, though its sharp early price drop raised concerns about long-term viability. Still, Midnight has over 100 announced partners and staking pools now reward both ADA and NIGHT, helping revive activity across the ecosystem. Whether Midnight becomes a genuine growth driver or just a short-lived trend remains uncertain. The coming months will reveal if it delivers real adoption or simply buys Cardano more time in an increasingly competitive market.
