In reality, Do Kwon was caught in Montenegro while trying to escape using forged passports. No credible outlet—like Reuters, Bloomberg, or the BBC—ever reported anything about a hidden hardware wallet or any bizarre body search. Those viral images were edited satire that spread during peak bear-market chaos.
After being extradited to the US, he pleaded guilty to fraud related to the $40 billion Terra/Luna collapse and was sentenced to 15 years in prison this month (December 2025).
