NEAR Mainnet Rolls Out Nightshade 2.0 - Bringing Stateless Validation and Scalability Improvements

The NEAR Protocol network has seen major changes as it now features the latest update on the sharding roadmap, Nightshade 2.0. This update brings Stateless Validation to the network, improving the scalability, speed, and decentralization of the protocol.

This is a major milestone in NEAR's development, and is the most significant change to the protocol since the mainnet launched in October 2020.

Stateless Validation, which ensures stateless validation, increases the throughput of a single shard and adds more shards to the network without using up user and application resources.

NEAR currently has six shards, with plans to expand to ten by the end of 2024.

Initiated by Vitalik Buterin in 2017, the idea of Stateless Validation is currently implemented on only a few blockchain networks, including NEAR.

Nightshade 2.0 reduces the requirements for validators in terms of hardware and cost, allowing new validators to join the ecosystem, which will allow the network to be even more decentralized.
