You often hear about Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Shiba Inu…

But do you know that there are several categories of cryptocurrencies, each with a different role? 👇

1️⃣ Bitcoin (BTC)

The first cryptocurrency (2009, Satoshi Nakamoto).

💬 Goal: to serve as a decentralized digital currency, without banks or central authority.

It is the benchmark against which all others are compared.

2️⃣ Altcoins

➡️ “Alternative coins” = all cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin.

Examples: Ethereum (ETH), BNB, Cardano (ADA), Solana (SOL)…

💡 Often faster or more innovative: smart contracts, low cost, anonymity…

3️⃣ Stablecoins

Cryptos backed by a stable value (often the dollar or euro).

Examples: USDT, USDC, DAI.

🎯 Ideal for limiting volatility or transferring funds without converting back to euros.

4️⃣ Meme coins

Inspired by jokes or Internet memes.

Examples: Dogecoin 🐶, Shiba Inu, Pepe, Floki.

⚠️ Very speculative: can yield quickly… or drop just as fast!

5️⃣ Utility tokens

Used to access a service or pay fees.

Examples: BNB, MATIC, UNI.

6️⃣ Governance tokens

Give a voting right in certain decentralized projects.

Examples: AAVE, COMP, UNI.

7️⃣ NFTs

Unique and non-fungible tokens: art, game items, certificates, virtual land…

Examples: BAYC, CryptoPunks.
