Regarding the European Union (EU) preparing to implement new regulations related to "privacy coins" (anonymous tokens/cryptocurrencies) and anonymous accounts in the crypto sector, expected to take effect in 2027 — along with important notes as some parts remain unclear or are under debate.
✅ What has been confirmed
1. The EU has approved or is finalizing a new anti-money laundering (AML) regulatory package including documents such as Regulation (EU) 2024/1624 (tentatively called AMLR) and related regulations.
2. Accordingly, starting around July 2027 (or "mid-2027"), crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) in the EU will be required to:
• Not maintain anonymous accounts or accounts that allow for automatic concealment/blocking of crypto transaction tracing.
• Not list or trade "anonymity-enhancing coins" (privacy coins) such as Monero (XMR), Zcash (ZEC), or Dash (DASH) on exchanges or through regulated services.
3. Cryptocurrency transactions through intermediary services will require identity verification (KYC) when exceeding a certain threshold (for example > €1.000) – to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.
4. The EU is also establishing a new supervisory authority: Anti‑Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) – responsible for overseeing CASPs and enforcing these regulations.
