If you still equate Web3 games to 'spending a lot of money to buy an NFT and then grinding every day to break even,' then YGG's recent move is indeed worth a second look.
The YGG Play Launchpad launched by Yield Guild Games is already online.
This time, it's not asking: 'Are you willing to come and grind for gold?'
Instead, it feels more like saying: 'Do you want to experience the next batch of Web3 games in advance and also take away some new game tokens?'
What is YGG Play Launchpad really doing?
In one sentence:
This is a guild-driven game launch platform,
You do this by playing games and completing tasks.
Get involved in the early stages of new games and earn their tokens on Launchpad.
Launchpad in the past was more like an "investor's paradise":
KYC, lock-up period, quota grabbing
Players are often just "the group that gets notified afterward."
YGG Play Launchpad, on the other hand, reversed the order—
Get players involved first, then discuss token distribution.
What you're doing isn't a cold, impersonal job task, but rather a series of experiential steps designed around the game itself:
Explore a YGG-selected Web3 game
Complete a series of on-chain/off-chain tasks (combat, team play, social interaction, creation, etc.)
Cumulative points and contribution
During the Launchpad phase, you'll receive a share of new game tokens or airdrop opportunities based on your actual engagement.
Tokens are no longer just a ticket to capital, but a "proof and reward" of player behavior.
02 The “task” is no longer drudgery, but rather the building blocks of your Web3 identity.
Many people are deterred from blockchain games because of the task design that feels like "working a second job":
A bunch of meaningless clicks, monster slaying, and daily check-ins, only to get a little bit of negligible reward.
YGG Play is trying to use a different logic:
Task = Understanding the path of the game
It guides you step-by-step through the economic system, combat rhythm, and social gameplay, rather than forcing you to accept "daily tasks".
Completion rate = your "credit" in this ecosystem.
The tasks not only provide short-term rewards, but also become part of your "resume" within the YGG ecosystem:
It's immediately clear who the seasoned players are who have seriously played several games and who are just casual players who only come to grab a quick buck and leave.
Rewards = Advance tickets to future opportunities
Besides direct tokens or items, the behavioral data you accumulate from completing tasks can likely influence:
Will you be able to enter the first batch of tests for the next new game?
Is it possible to obtain a higher level of whitelist?
Whether you have been invited to join a more core guild team or creator program.
A very subtle point is:
In YGG Play, "tasks" have transformed from a form of consumption into a process of building a long-term identity.
You're no longer just playing an isolated game; you're "labeling" your future self.
03 Explore YGG Web3 games that you like, rather than being "chosen by the project team".
YGG is essentially a huge network of gaming guilds:
There are veteran players who have been deeply involved in blockchain games from the early days.
There are esports players who transitioned from Web2.
There are also ordinary users who use games as a social space.
Made by YGG Play Launchpad
It is about systematizing the "product selection capability" of this network:
Games selected by guilds and communities
It's no longer about the project team talking to themselves, but about whether the game can withstand player beta testing and guild evaluation.
You are free to choose your favorite track.
Some people prefer card strategies
Some people are obsessed with MMOs and open worlds.
Some people only want to play light competitive or casual games.
On Launchpad, you're not passively picking up "the hottest cryptocurrency game," but actively choosing the YGG games you really want to play.
The greater the depth of participation, the more comprehensive the profit structure.
Basic Tasks → Basic Rewards
Long-term activity → Higher access (beta testing, community status, offline event opportunities)
Becoming a core player/KOL → Potentially gaining access to higher levels of DAO decision-making and profit sharing.
In short: You're not the one "getting on the bus," you're the one helping YGG choose the bus.
04 New Game Token: Not an airdrop of candy, but a participation certificate
When many people hear "complete tasks to earn tokens," their first reaction is:
"Another place to get freebies from airdrops?"
The difference is that YGG Play Launchpad extends the "claim" step into a participation period:
First, you need to actually play the game for a while.
The system uses behavioral data to determine whether you are a player or a pure bot/script.
Secondly, Launchpad will evaluate your performance, activity level, and community interaction during tasks.
Different tiers of token acquisition eligibility are allocated:
Basic players can acquire a small amount of tokens and experience the economic closed loop;
Deep participants: have the opportunity to receive larger allocations or long-term incentives.
Finally, these new game tokens are typically not only tradable,
It will also grant you more rights within the game:
Suggestions for participation in governance and balance adjustment
Unlock specific seasons, modes, or items
Within the YGG ecosystem, this serves as yet another "piece of evidence" of your participation.
The focus of this design is not "to make you a lot of money immediately".
Instead, it filters out real players through Launchpad.
The goal is to distribute the game's early tokens to those who genuinely care about the game.
What YGG wants to do is actually something much more difficult than "issuing a coin".
If you shift your focus away from a particular task or a single token reward, you'll find that:
YGG is attempting to integrate "playing games → completing tasks → building an identity → participating in Launchpad → giving back to the game" into a process.
It becomes a closed loop;
Web2 players can access the platform through simpler entry points (automatic wallets, fiat currency payments, and other collaborative solutions).
Entering the Web3 world almost imperceptibly;
Creators, KOLs, and guild managers are no longer just "players who post ads".
Rather, they are the designers, coordinators, and beneficiaries of the entire ecosystem.
This path is certainly not easy:
Good games are always a scarce commodity. Can YGG continue to help players find games that are "truly fun"?
Will Launchpad be overwhelmed by short-term speculators, affecting the experience for long-term users?
With guilds from multiple regions collaborating with DAOs, can they maintain cohesion during market shifts?
But at least one thing is clear:
YGG Play Launchpad will not repeat the story of the previous "Play-to-Earn" approach.
It is trying to write a new version—
Play to Explore, Play to Belong, Play to Gain Real Stake.
If you still have a shred of curiosity about Web3 games,
YGG Play Launchpad might be a good place to get back on track:
Go pick a YGG game that you really want to play.
Plant yourself in this ecosystem through tasks.
Then on Launchpad, use the new game tokens.
To leave a trace of my participation on this timeline.
It's not for the sake of the next surge in the candlestick chart.
It's so that one day when we look back, we can say:
"I actually completed this guild's main quest."
