THE EXTORTION PLAYBOOK EXPOSED Telegram CEO Pavel Durov just revealed how European censorship actually operates. His words, posted today: “The EU imposes impossible rules so it can punish tech firms that refuse to silently censor free speech. We saw the same in France: a baseless ‘criminal investigation,’ then intelligence services offering to help with it if Telegram quietly censored speech in Romania and Moldova.” Read that again. This is not theory. He named names, dates, and locations. Spring 2025: Nicolas Lerner, head of French intelligence DGSE, personally asked Durov to ban conservative Romanian voices ahead of elections. Location: the Salon des Batailles at the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris. Durov refused. September 2024: While detained in Paris on 12 criminal charges, French intelligence offered to “say good things” to the judge overseeing his case. The price? Censor Moldovan Telegram channels before their elections. Durov’s assessment: “If the agency did in fact approach the judge, it constituted an attempt to interfere in the judicial process. If it did not, then it was exploiting my legal situation in France to influence political developments in Eastern Europe.” Telegram reviewed the first list. Removed channels that violated rules. Then came the second list. “Unlike the first, nearly all of these channels were legitimate. Their only commonality was that they voiced political positions disliked by the French and Moldovan governments.” Telegram refused. France denies everything. The DGSE called the claims “unfounded.” But they admitted meeting with Durov “on several occasions.” This statement lands 24 hours after Brussels fined X €120 million. Two platforms. Two CEOs.
