Trump demands Maduro to step down

US President Trump recently threatened Venezuelan President Maduro during a phone call, stating that if Maduro does not voluntarily step down, the US would consider taking other measures, including military action.

The New York Times reported on the 28th of this month that Trump spoke with Maduro late last week, discussing the possibility of a meeting between the two in the US. Both the White House and the Venezuelan government have declined to comment on the report.

The Wall Street Journal, on the 29th, cited sources saying that Trump issued threats to Maduro during the call. Recently, the US has deployed several warships in the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela under the guise of "anti-drug" operations, continuing to pressure Venezuela.

On the 29th, Trump stated on social media that the airspace over and around Venezuela "is considered fully closed." Venezuelan Vice President Rodriguez indicated the same day that Venezuela has activated all multilateral mechanisms under international law to address the "US blockade of airspace."
