What to Expect from Today’s FOMC Meeting 1. Rate Cut Likely Markets and analysts expect the Fed to announce a 25 basis point (0.25%) rate cut. 2. Size of the Cut The most likely outcome is a 25bps cut. Some are speculating about a 50bps cut, but that’s less likely. 3. Current Rate Range The federal funds rate is currently at 4.25%–4.50%. If the Fed cuts by 25bps, it would move to 4.00%–4.25%. --- Key Factors to Watch Labor Market / Jobs Data If job growth slows further or unemployment rises, it strengthens the case for rate cuts. Inflation Situation Inflation is still above the Fed’s 2% target. The Fed has to balance controlling inflation while supporting growth. Dot Plot & Projections The Fed will release updated projections for growth, inflation, and unemployment, which will show how many more cuts may come. Powell’s Press Conference The tone (hawkish or dovish) of Jerome Powell’s remarks will give markets a signal about the Fed’s future approach. --- Likely Outcome (My View) The Fed will probably cut 25bps, but with a cautious message. Powell may say decisions will remain data-dependent, pointing to inflation trends and the labor market. If the economy weakens further, more cuts could follow.
