Life comes from outer space.
Is Earth the only cradle of life?
An ancient rock, older than any myth, provides the answer.
NASA has just announced that on the Bennu asteroid,
they found all the components that make up RNA.
Remember, not part, but all.
Previously, they found nucleobases, the basic letters of life's blueprint.
Now, they have found ribose, the scaffold that builds the blueprint.
RNA, the predecessor of DNA, the first line of code for life on Earth.
What does this mean?
It means that the chemical ingredients of life are not exclusively Earth's patent.
They are like seeds,
long ago sown in the dark, patient universe,
waiting for a planet with enough water, enough time, enough stability,
to begin its slow, self-organizing mission.
This is indeed historic news.
But don't forget, it’s also more like a reminder.
A reminder that we come from afar.
Much farther than we acknowledge.
