American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) announced on Friday that it will restart flights to Haiti on 11.01.2026, becoming the first American carrier to signal a return to the Caribbean nation after major airlines halted service at the end of 2024.

The airline is set to kick off flights to Cap-Haïtien this fall. Right now, Haiti's lacking direct air links with American carriers, making it the only Caribbean nation without these connections.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded flights to the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince since November 2024 due to threats from armed groups against civil aviation. Subsequently, the FAA has greenlit flights to six other airports in northern Haiti, while keeping the restriction on Port-au-Prince in place.

The FAA plans to maintain the restrictions on flights to Port-au-Prince at least until 03.09.2026. The agency imposed the ban in November 2024 after three American commercial airliners came under fire. The FAA continues these restrictions due to the inability of law enforcement to prevent attacks on aircraft in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

American Airlines has also announced plans to add a second airport in Venezuela: flights to Maracaibo will kick off on 14.07.2026.
