What is the Great Battle?
The Great Battle is not just a military confrontation, but a cosmic event in which prophecies intertwine with reality, and the Islamic nation appears as the last stronghold of faith in the face of major tribulations.
In the authentic narrations, the Prophet ﷺ informs us about an alliance between Muslims and the Romans (in the Last Days) against a common enemy, then a great disagreement occurs, leading to a massive battle that is one of the greatest battles in history. This battle directly prepares for the emergence of the Dajjal and the descent of Christ Jesus son of Mary peace be upon him.
The battle of Armageddon: between religions and history
The word Armageddon is mentioned in Jewish and Christian heritage as the battle of the end of the world. Some Western thinkers have adopted this concept to apply it to modern political conflicts.
In Islam, the battle is not linked to a specific place by this name, but is related to a system of events in the Last Days as informed by the Prophet ﷺ.
My lord and our lord, Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam sent as a mercy to the worlds, صلى الله عليه وآله وصحبه وسلم presents the clearest, most complete, and well-explained picture, and here it is displayed now so pay attention, and be alert, for the letter indicates speed, O all sons of Adam where:
It is preceded by major tribulations, earthquakes, and upheavals.

The awaited Mahdi will appear.
The nations of the earth will unite.
The Dajjal moves forward to lead the most dangerous tribulation in human history.
Then Jesus peace be upon him will descend to lead the believers to victory.
Hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ about the Great Battle
The Hadiths depict shocking details about the severity of the battle, how hundreds of thousands of believers will be martyred, and how the balance of power will change.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said it will be more severe than any war humanity has known, and the believers will be certain of victory for them no matter how long the struggle lasts, because divine destiny has preceded it.
Signs of the beginnings of the end
The first part of this series begins with the first signs of the Great Hour:
The emergence of the false messiah (Dajjal)
The greatest trial in human history, which no nation before us has been tested with.The descent of Jesus peace be upon him
Who will kill the Dajjal and restore the balance of justice.The alliance of Muslims and Romans followed by the occurrence of disagreements
Which leads to the outbreak of the Great Battle.The appearance of the awaited Mahdi

The three questions of the Dajjal: the lake – the palm – the eye (and what about it today?)
It was reported in a true Hadith that the Dajjal will ask about three matters, and will describe their condition to test the people, and it came in the Hadith:
1 — The lake (Lake Tiberias)
The Prophet ﷺ said that the Dajjal asks the people about Lake Tiberias:
Does it have water or has it dried up?
And in the Last Days, its waters will significantly diminish, and complete drought will be in the hands of Gog and Magog as our Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم informed us.
Beware, O Muslim, beware, O you who do not believe in a Prophet appointed by Allah to be a mercy and guidance and light and clear evidence for you
And he is: the leader of all humans, Muhammad son of Abdullah

And today, indeed, the lake is witnessing a historical decline in water levels, which aligns with what was mentioned in the Hadith, for the matter is solely in the hands of Allah, who is capable of all things.
Beware, O son of Adam.....
2 — The palms in Baysan
The Dajjal asks about the palms of Baysan:
Does it still bear fruit or has it stopped?
And it was reported in the Hadith: "Will the palms of Baysan still bear fruit?"
And among its signs is that the palms will stop bearing fruit in the Last Days.
Beware, O human.....
The cultivation of palms in the region has become rare compared to the past, but scholars affirm that the complete sign is fulfilled only in the time when the Dajjal emerges.
3 — The eye of Zughar (a water spring in Jordan)
He asks about the eye of Zughar:
Do people still drink from it?
And in the Last Days, the eye will have weak flow, or its state will change.
And today it still exists, but the strength is not as it was, and the complete sign will remain achieved when the Dajjal emerges.
Why is the Great Battle considered one of the greatest signs of the Hour?
Because it is:
A transition between the era of major tribulations and the era of divine victory.
Prepares for the end of the Dajjal.
Witnesses direct divine intervention with the descent of Christ peace be upon him.
The shape of the world radically changes before the Day of Judgment.
Scholars described it as the greatest war known to earth, and it is the true beginning of the end of human history as we know it.

The point at which the entire world changes.
First: The correct arrangement of the events of the Last Days
According to what has come in the authentic Hadiths, the arrangement of the major events is as follows:
1 — The appearance of the awaited Mahdi (the first of the great events)
The Mahdi is the first major event that opens the doors to the Last Days.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The Mahdi will emerge in the last part of my nation, and Allah will send him rain, the earth will produce its plants, and he will distribute wealth justly..."
– Narrated by Al-Hakim and authenticated by Al-Albani
And the Mahdi will appear in Mecca, and people will pledge allegiance to him between the corner and the station against his will, then he will lead the nation during a time of major tribulations and upheavals.
2 — The alliance between Muslims and Romans against a common enemy
After the appearance of the Mahdi and the stabilization of the matter of the nation, major political events occur in the world, leading to a huge alliance between Muslims and the Romans.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"You will make peace with the Romans in a safe agreement, and you will invade a common enemy behind your backs…"
– Narrated by Abu Dawood and Ibn Majah and authenticated by Al-Albani
Who is the common enemy?
The Hadith did not explicitly name him, but described him as:
Emerging from the East
Of great power
Moves against both sides
Makes Muslims and Romans stand in one row
And this means that it is a global enemy threatening everyone, and scholars have interpreted it as a major power or an alliance of Eastern nations.
3 — The breaking of the alliance and the outbreak of the "Great Battle"
After the joint victory, the Muslims and the Romans will differ over the spoils of war, and the Romans will betray.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"They will differ, and they will line up for battle, and the great battle will occur..."
– Narrated by Muslim
And here begins the Great Battle — the largest ground wars ever.
4 — The Great Battle (referred to in the West as “Armageddon”)
The Prophet ﷺ described its severity by saying:
"The Hour will not come until the Romans descend at Al-Amaq or Dabiq…"
Then he mentioned a fierce battle in which one-third of the Muslims will be killed, and the other third will be victorious.
– Narrated by Muslim
This battle directly prepares for the next event:
5 — The emergence of the Dajjal (the most dangerous tribulation in human history)
Immediately after the battle, a scream is heard:
"Indeed, the Dajjal has emerged among you!"
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"And I warn you about him, and there is no prophet except that he warned his people..."
– Agreed upon
Here begins the most dangerous phase in the life of humanity, the phase in which faith is tested like never before.
6 — The descent of Jesus son of Mary peace be upon him
At the moment when the tyranny of the Dajjal intensifies, Jesus peace be upon him descends:
"Then the son of Mary will descend at the white minaret east of Damascus…"
– Narrated by Muslim
And he will pursue the Dajjal until he kills him at "the Gate of Lud" in Palestine.
And after that, a new era of peace and guidance begins.
Secondly: The three questions of the Dajjal (the lake – the palm – the eye)
As mentioned in the Hadith of Tamim Al-Dari رضي الله عنه in Muslim:
The Dajjal used to ask about three signs:
1 — Lake Tiberias
He asks:
"Is there water in it?"
Its sign:
– In the Last Days, its waters will severely diminish before the Dajjal emerges.
2 — The palms of Baysan
He asks:
"Has the palm of Baysan borne fruit?"
Its sign:
– The palms of Baysan will stop bearing fruit as his emergence approaches.
3 — The eye of Zughar
He asks:
"Is there water in the eye of Zughar? And do people drink from it?"
Its sign:
– It will have weak flow or its state will change from before.
These signs gradually appear as the time of the great tribulation approaches.
Thirdly: The true meaning of the Great Battle
The battle is not just a fight...
It is the dividing line between the past and the end.
In it, faith is tested
And the shape of the world changes
And the great end of human events begins
Then everything concludes with the descent of Jesus peace be upon him and the victory of truth
That is why the scholars said:
"The Great Battle is the greatest battles on earth since Adam was created."

From the appearance of the Mahdi, to the alliance, then the betrayal, the battle, then the emergence of the Dajjal, and the descent of Jesus peace be upon him.
