SÃO PAULO, 9 Dec (Reuters) - The leader of the PL in the Senate, Rogério Marinho (RN), stated on Monday night that the candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) for the Presidency "is for real" and that PP and União Brasil will have time to "mature" the candidacy and decide on potential support for the eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro in next year's election.
Marinho spoke to journalists after participating in a meeting in Brasília with Flávio and the presidents of PL, Valdemar Costa Neto; of PP, Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI), and of União Brasil, Antônio Rueda. PP and União formed a party federation for next year's election.
"Both Ciro and Rueda, who today represent a federation, listened, were receptive, and will talk with their parties to make a decision," Marinho told reporters.
"The conversation we had here will be matured, will be absorbed by everyone, we will have time for this definition," he added.
On Friday, Valdemar and Flávio announced that the senator was chosen by Bolsonaro to be the Bolsonarist candidate for the presidency next year, when current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will run for re-election.
Financial markets reacted poorly to the news, with the Ibovespa falling more than 4% after hitting record highs during the session and the dollar soaring more than 2%. Agents understand that Flávio has a lower ability to attract centrist voters than the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), the market favorite, which would increase Lula's re-election chances, whose economic policy is subject to criticism among these agents.
Over the weekend, Flávio stated that there would be a "price" for withdrawing his candidacy, which was interpreted as a signal that he would not carry the plea to the end. Subsequently, however, he classified his candidacy as irreversible.
"The position of PL is very clear, our main leader made this decision, we will all be together... The candidacy $ETH
