False information is circulating about needing to list all of your crypto holdings, wallets, and public keys. Most people assumed this image was of the usual Form 1040, but it is NOT.
This viral screenshot is actually from a follow-up request from the IRS to an individual taxpayer. Rather than an initial request, this taxpayer has photographed Form 9297.
Only a small number of people receive this form, and it is typically requested by a revenue officer requesting information about delinquent returns or unpaid taxes.
