On December 12, the United States will sign a joint statement with Israel, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan, aimed at addressing the issue of insufficient access to critical minerals and competing with China.
Politico reported, stating: "The Trump administration is forming a coalition aimed at countering China's dominance in the field of critical mineral extraction and its growing influence as a center for the development of artificial intelligence and other technological fields."
In recent years, China has invested heavily in critical mineral extraction and technology development. The U.S. claims that this statement will create conditions for joint research, development of production, and infrastructure construction to compete with China's Belt and Road Initiative.
The report also pointed out that the formation of this coalition indicates that the White House believes China's monopoly in areas such as rare earth metals poses a serious threat.
The question is, what do rare earths even matter? If China does not allow flights over its airspace to Japan and stops exporting chemical precursors to the United States, will these two countries go crazy? Will they have to kneel and grind their heads against the wall?
How many alliances will need to be formed? How many statements will be issued? In short, what good is it?
