On December 15, 2025, the price of Bitcoin experienced a sharp decline:
Starting point: BTC traded sideways just below $90,000.
Drop: At the beginning of the American session, there was a quick drop to a local minimum of $86,800.
Current level: At the time of writing, the price was around $87,000, having lost more than 2% in 24 hours.
Context:
The drop affected other cryptocurrencies as well.$ETH , $SOL , $BNB and others, while the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies significantly decreased.
Analyst Il Capo of Crypto, who referred to the current pullback as a 'bear trap'.
His forecast: A strong recovery is expected with a subsequent target at $95,000. A clear breakout of this level may shift the focus to the $100,000 zone.
Liquidation data: The drop was accompanied by mass liquidations — over 24 hours, positions worth $468 million were liquidated in the market, of which $384 million were long positions.
Observation from the firm Bespoke Investment based on analysis of the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT):
Holding this ETF outside the main session (after the closure of American exchanges) would have yielded a return of 222%.
Holding only during the main session would have resulted in a loss of more than 40%.
This indicates that the main price movements of Bitcoin lately have occurred outside of American market trading hours.
