Bhutan has committed up to $1 billion in Bitcoin (≈10,000 BTC) to develop Gelephu Mindfulness City without selling its reserves.
Announced by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the pledge positions Bitcoin as a long-term national asset, funding infrastructure through collateralized lending, yield strategies, and strategic holding. The move reinforces Bhutan’s leadership in sovereign Bitcoin adoption while preserving capital and supporting sustainable economic development.
