Bhutan has announced the allocation of 10,000 BTC (1 billion USD) to develop the Mindfulness City of Gelephu (GMC) - a special economic zone near the Indian border, aiming for a sustainable, ethical economic model inspired by Buddhism. The king emphasized that the people of Bhutan will be stakeholders and beneficiaries, through a new land policy, creating jobs and increasing economic resilience. Bhutan does not sell Bitcoin but preserves capital, considers BTC collateral, and manages risk. This carbon-negative country leverages cheap hydropower to mine BTC; the state-owned enterprise DHI previously invested 539 million USD (20% GDP) in cryptocurrency mining, although it has not disclosed the exact amount held.
