Thrilling success! Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) successfully retains its position in the Nasdaq 100 Index!
The latest Nasdaq annual reconfiguration (announced on December 13, effective December 22): Strategy secures its NDX position, despite Bitcoin holdings exceeding 85%, and the market was once worried about being removed due to being a 'non-traditional tech company.' This is a significant short-term positive, meaning passive funds tracking the Nasdaq (such as QQQ ETF) will continue to hold MSTR, avoiding immediate selling pressure.
However, clouds remain—MSCI is still consulting, considering companies with Bitcoin and other digital assets making up more than 50% of their holdings as 'investment funds' and potentially removing them from major indices (like the MSCI World Index). The final decision is expected to be announced on January 15, 2026; if confirmed for removal, it could trigger outflows of $2.8 billion to $8.8 billion in passive funds, putting pressure on both MSTR stock price and BTC, amplifying volatility.
Michael Saylor strongly counters: he submitted a 12-page letter in opposition, stating that Strategy is an operating company (still has software business), Bitcoin is 'productive capital,' and continues to hold coins unchanged! The latest holding has reached 671,000 coins $BTC (approximately $60 billion), increasing by over 10,000 coins last week.
My understanding: In the short term, retaining the Nasdaq is indeed a solid positive; MSTR, as a 'leveraged BTC' proxy, may have room for price rebound. But the medium-term MSCI risk is the big thunder—if removal is successful, it would break Strategy's 'index passive buying' moat, leading to a price collapse and increased financing difficulties, potentially dragging down the sentiment of the entire crypto market. Saylor's strategy is essentially a high-leverage bet on long-term BTC appreciation, but changes in index rules remind us: traditional finance still has boundaries for crypto acceptance. Long-term holders shouldn't panic, but don't ignore short-term volatility; it's recommended to pay attention to funding dynamics before and after the January MSCI decision.
What do you think? Continue to increase positions in MSTR as leveraged BTC, or is holding spot more stable? Let's discuss in the comments!
