🇺🇸 PENTAGON ALLIES WITH xAI BY ELON MUSK: 200 MILLION FOR MILITARY AI 🇺🇸
The Pentagon has signed a contract worth 200 million dollars with xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, to enhance the AI arsenal of the US armed forces.
This partnership, announced by the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), also includes OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, with the same spending cap for each, for a potential total of 800 million.
The goal is to accelerate the adoption of "agentic" AI – autonomous systems capable of executing complex tasks – in defense, intelligence, and military operations.
xAI will provide Grok for Government, an initiative that makes models like Grok 4, Deep Search, and Tool Use available to federal departments, with support for classified environments and sensitive applications like national security and healthcare.
The Pentagon adopts a "commercial-first" approach, leveraging ready-to-use solutions to overcome internal delays and compete with adversaries like China and Russia in strategic AI.
Doug Matty, CDAO, emphasized how this integration transforms operational capabilities, from workflows to combat systems.
For Musk, it’s a masterstroke: xAI enters the public sector despite controversies over Grok, strengthening his race against rivals like OpenAI (co-founded by him).
Custom tools will support data analysis, simulations, and real-time decisions, elevating AI to an "essential strategic advantage."
This move reflects the global race for military AI, with ethical implications on autonomy and control.
The alliance marks the expansion of xAI beyond the private sector, positioning Musk at the center of US security.
