Back in 2011, you could actually buy a single bitcoin for just three dollars and fifty-six cents on a website called Mt. Gox. Interestingly, that platform originally started as a place for people to trade Magic: The Gathering cards online before it quickly transformed into the largest bitcoin exchange in the world. Unfortunately, it became famous for a much darker reason when it collapsed after losing eight hundred and fifty thousand coins. Those lost bitcoins would be worth many billions of dollars today. It is a wild piece of history that shows just how much the digital currency landscape has changed.
