On Android, they can come as:
Spy apps
APKs installed outside of the Play Store
Fake keyboards
On iPhone, it is harder, but not impossible (especially if it is jailbroken).

Do not install apps outside of official stores
Use reliable antivirus
Enable two-step verification (2FA)
Never save your seed phrases on the phone
