Money has three jobs: - Medium of exchange – Buy and sell things - Store of value – Save for the future - Unit of account – Measure prices What is Debt? When you borrow money, you promise to pay it back with interest (extra money as a fee for borrowing). Example: You borrow ₹1,000 from a friend. You agree to return ₹1,100 in 6 months. The extra ₹100 is the interest. What is Government Debt? When a government needs more money than it collects in taxes, it borrows by issuing bonds. Think of a bond as an IOU (I Owe You): You buy a government bond for ₹10,000 The government promises to pay you back ₹11,000 in 5 years The extra ₹1,000 is your interest (your profit for lending)
