A few days ago in the early morning, a friend from the crypto circle urgently sent a message: he had just converted 20,000 USDT into cash transferred to his bank card from the exchange, and before he could withdraw it, his phone popped up a message saying "Over-the-counter trading is suspended" — the balance was clearly visible, but the money was completely inaccessible. He then realized that in the crypto world, what is more distressing than a market crash is not losing money, but earning money that cannot be withdrawn.
Many people's first reaction is to blame the bank for its "one-size-fits-all" approach, but the root of the problem lies in the funds being "contaminated." Scammers often use money obtained through fraud to purchase USDT, and after multiple rounds of transfers to launder the money, it flows into ordinary user accounts. Once upstream victims report to the police, they will freeze all related accounts along the money chain, even if you are an "innocent end" who is completely unaware.
But don't panic, account freezing does not mean illegal activity. As long as you can provide complete transaction screenshots, chat records with the counterpart, payment vouchers, and other evidence, over 90% of accounts can be unfrozen; it just involves a cumbersome process that is time-consuming and energy-draining.
Instead of running around after the fact, it’s better to take precautions in advance, and these three recommendations must be remembered:
First, use a dedicated card; apply for a separate bank card that is only used for OTC trading, and do not mix it with daily life cards for receiving salaries or paying rent to avoid affecting normal life after freezing;
Second, choose your counterpart carefully; prioritize trading with old accounts that have large credit guarantees, and do not trade with unfamiliar small accounts just to save a bit on price differences, reducing risks;
Third, details are key; break large funds into smaller transfers, try to operate during the day, write reasonable content like "goods payment"
