#LorenzoProcol Ray-Ban and Meta shake up the eyewear market with AI, but raise privacy alarms EssilorLuxottica is betting big on smart glasses and the gamble is about to be tested. Its Ray-Ban Meta glasses, equipped with artificial intelligence features, saw the first significant revenue increase this year, but analysts warn that privacy concerns and a wave of new competitors could limit their growth.
The glasses, launched in 2021, promise to change the smartphone era by allowing users to take photos and make videos through a camera installed in the frame. The device is capable of streaming content to Meta apps and allows the user to have an AI assistant.
However, the features born from the collaboration between Meta and the Franco-Italian eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica are generating concerns and coming under the scrutiny of European regulators, as people have little control over the recording or how their data is handled.
