Bitcoin farms are transforming into artificial intelligence factories
In the U.S., giant Bitcoin mining facilities are rapidly changing. Set to begin construction in 2024 in Corsicana, Texas, the structure designed to be the world's largest Bitcoin mining facility is preparing to serve an entirely different purpose just a year and a half later.
Two-thirds of the facility will now be used for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) activities, thanks to its high energy capacity and infrastructure. Thus, what was once seen as Bitcoin's 'temple' will have turned into an AI factory.
Bitcoin machines are leaving, GPUs are coming
This transformation is not limited to a single company. In the past 18 months, at least nine publicly traded Bitcoin mining companies, including Bitfarms, Core Scientific, Riot, IREN, TeraWulf, CleanSpark, Bit Digital, MARA Holdings, and Cipher Mining, have announced that they will shift all or a significant portion of their operations to artificial intelligence services.
